SVNSC Newsletter January 30, 2012
Well hello everyone, and what do you think of our record-breaking snow year so far? It always amazes me how much of the white stuff can pile up, and there's still more coming down! The grooming pace has been frantic and the groomers are about ready to drop. So say a big thank you to Lothar Mueller, Dean Bergstrom and Anthony Van der Muellen if you see them. They all have full time jobs and do our grooming in their spare time.

Snowshoeing out at the ski trails
Attention, snowshoe athletes:
We are discussing building snowshoe trails out at Onion Lake Ski Trails, but it's a long way off, as we've only entered the discussion phase (and we'd sure encourage anyone to help us develop and implement a snowshoe route!). Until we have those trails, traipsing around the trails on snowshoes is allowed, but please stay off the set parallel tracks (for classic skiing) and the inside smooth surface (set for skate skiers). Both categories of skiers have a hard time navigating trails that have been chewed up by snowshoes. So stay on the outside edges of the groomed trails, and of course, you are welcome to snowshoe through the trees and away from the tracks. Anyone on snowshoes in the ski area needs to buy and wear a pass, too. Skiers, please kindly educate the snowshoers who aren't aware of the above.
Newsletter January 18, 2012
Hi everyone – hope you’re all keeping warm this week. As is usual when it’s this cold, the water pipe at the lodge is frozen solid. So it’s a good idea to bring a thermos with a hot drink if you decide to venture out to the trails. We stopped by last night at 7:30 when there’s usually 8 – 10 cars in the lot, and 1 solitary vehicle sat on its lonesome. The occupants had had a wonderful ski but admitted it was darn cold!
Spirit of the North Race Series 2012
New for this year, the northern cross-country ski clubs of BC (Prince George to Kitimat) have introduced a northern race series, "Spirit of the North". This year, our club will be recognizing skiers who attend any of these races besides our own. You can find a poster with dates and locations here.
