Background

Welcome to the Snow Valley Nordic Ski Club website. The Snow Valley Nordic Ski Club is a non-profit organization for cross-country skiing enthusiasts in the Kitimat and Terrace area.  Today the club runs and maintains the Onion Lake Ski Trails located half-way between Kitimat and Terrace.  The club is run entirely by volunteers through the support of people like you, local governments and local businesses.

Onion Lake Ski Trails Air Photo Surrounded by the beautiful coast mountains and located in a snow belt, the Onion Lake Ski Trails have over 35 km of groomed trails which includes 5 km of lit trails for night skiing.  Newest to the trail system is a 6 km "Doggy Trail," where your canine friend is welcome to romp beside you while you ski.  The trail system has been built to suit a variety of skill levels and still provide easy access to many small lakes and spectacular views of the valley.  Each year the club organizes and hosts the numerous events at the Onion Lake Ski Trails.  Come out and enjoy the most popular winter sport in the world with us.

History

Originally started as the Kitimat Cross Country Ski Club, the club has changed and Pisten Bullygrown a great deal since its inception back in 1976.  Over the years the club has constructed three different cross country skiing facilities.  Previous facilities included the trails at the Hirsh Creek Golf and Country Club which featured 1.6 km of lit trails, and the South Hirsch Ski Trails located just outside Kitimat.  As the club grew, it turned to the Onion Lake area to build a first-class skiing facility. Today the Onion Lake Ski T rails feature 35 km of Pisten Bully 200-groomed trails, linking a variety of different facilities including a club house at the trail head.

Volunteers

The growth and expansion of the Snow Valley Nordic Ski Club and our facilities would not be possible if it were not for the many volunteers who have helped the club over the years. In the future the club has plans to extend the main lodge and expand the existing ski trails to better serve our members and day users.

Adult Lessons

The kids have lessons, what about the adults?  It's amazing what one or two lessons over the winter will do for your skiing technique and also your safety and enjoyment!  We have accredited instructors who are willing to take on all skill levels, for classic and skate skiing.

While the Jack Rabbits (kids) program is running (January-March), we will be holding adult lessons on Saturday mornings, 10:30-12:00.  These lessons are free to club members, $10 to nonmembers (on top of the day use fee of $12).  Skate ski lessons will be on Wednesday evenings.  There will be other lessons posted once the season kicks in.  And if you belong to a group of people and would like to do some group lessons, we can accomodate and give a sweet deal for lessons, rentals, and day passes!  Contact us:  Dan, Julie, or Cathy.
