Dec. 7. 2009

Hello everyone!  There's so much happening that I thought I'd better let you know what's going on.

There's snow on the ground, it is groomed for classic and skate and conditions are good. Watch for sticks and the odd rock in a few places but skiing is wonderful just now.

Construction on the lodge extension has begun.  Please stay well away from the site.  It should be finished about mid Jan. if the weather cooperates.

Please get wood from the old boxes behind the wood shed as access is pretty tricky just now. It's easiest to walk along the dirt behind the lodge and then follow the foot prints around the back.  If everyone gets an arm load when they're out there, the wood box will stay full and the lodge will be warm!

The lights are on but the snowbound loop has been turned off so the Beaver loop stays on more consistently.  There are still a few lights acting up so carry a headlamp if you ski at night.

There will be a waxing clinic this Saturday, Dec. 12 starting at 1 pm. Lessons for adults will start on Dec. 29 and 30 at 1 pm.  Check the website or the bulletin board in the lodge for the schedule.  You must call and register ahead of time for lessons:   This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or call 635-7397.  Cost is $10.00 per session.  There is a limit to the size of each class.

Don't forget, Rabbits starts on Jan. 9.

Teen Ski starts Monday, Dec.7, 7:30-9 p.m. (or whenever you feel up for it.)  We'll ski Monday, Wed. and Friday evenings at 7:30 pm.  and Saturday afternoons at 1 pm.  Attendance at all practices is not mandatory, you can start at any time in the year.  Club membership is required.  No experience is necessary, we'll teach you to fall down no problem.  If you'd like to try racing, that can be arranged too.  We are big fans of hot chocolate and wood fires.  We plan to ski on Clearwater Lake as soon as it freezes enough.

Dec. 27 is our Open House and Jan. 2 is our first race!

Calling all volunteers!

Due to Eurocan upheaval, we urgently need a new treasurer. The job could be split between a book keeper and a check signer/meeting reporter.

We need a thank you note writer in Kitimat (Terrace is covered, thanks).  We give you a list. You write and send the notes.  No meetings.

Alarm system supervisor - someone who likes playing with electronics, batteries etc.   No meetings.

Party organizer.  Lord knows we can all use a good party.  No meetings.

Maintenance - later in the year.  For people who like puttering, painting etc. No meetings.

Fundraiser - Ken Earl is heading this committee.  He's the grant man but grants cover specific projects only.  We need general revenue.  Right now we're living off ski rentals and memberships.  Bake sales?  Guided tours?  Any other ideas?

Ski instructors (Rabbits program) - if you like working with kids, can pass a police check and are willing to devote at least 2 Friday-to-Sunday weekends for training next fall.

WINTER GAMES - sign up online https://bcgames.net/te2010w and don't give them a 2nd choice for sports--just choose “Cross-country skiing” as your first and only choice, and you will be able to help us with the Games March 4-7, 2010.

Kitimat Winter Festival - Jan. 29 to Feb. 1 - set up skiing in Kitimat; Dance?  I have some ideas.  Call me.

A Terrace member has offered to buy 2 youth memberships for kids unable to afford it themselves.  They'd need equipment and a way to get to the trails.  Any ideas?

For any of these items please call me, Liz Thorne, @ 632 6055.

We've got a great snow base, and we're going to have a great season!  Let's all get out and really enjoy the outdoors in our beautiful corner of the world!  Have a wonderful Christmas everyone and I'll be calling to find volunteers for the Open House very soon!

Think snow!!

Liz
