Snow Valley Nordic News -- Campout in May?
APRIL 2010. Just a short newsletter this month. Here’s hoping everyone is enjoying the lovely (most of the time, anyway – OK, some of the time) spring weather.
There’s still some snow on the trails but we don’t advise trying to ski any more.
Even Danny has wax-coated his skis and hung them up for the summer. Danny has skied over 70 times this season! As you may already know, the trails are a multi-use facility and we encourage year-round use by hikers, mountain bikers and horseback riders. The lodge and the Moose Hut are open all year round. There will be no stove at the Moose however – bring your own.
On the subject of multi-use:
Are you tired of May long weekend mid the mayhem at the lake? Would you like a little peace and quiet?
Is anyone interested in a group camp at the trails? I’m thinking it would be best this first time if we have a sign up, so RSVP This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . This way I can get an idea of how many people are interested. It’s a go if we get 2 families or more.
I checked with the Ministry and as long as we build proper campfire circles and take no fire risks, we can pretty much do as we choose. This will be a family style camp, with walking, bike riding, playing at Onion or Clear Water Lake (you choose, you organize, we’re not playing activity directors!), giant campfire sing alongs, etc.
Just to be really clear, drinking (alcohol) by legal aged adults is expected to be minimal, and under-age drinking will not happen.
I’m thinking we’ll lock the gates at 11 pm; or whenever we feel like it.
There will be no charge for this event but a roll of toilet paper for the out houses would be greatly appreciated!
The event will serve 2 purposes:
- It will be fun
- The ministry won’t have to run security patrols out there all weekend.
You can stay out there from Thursday night to Monday night or any length of time in between. Bring a tent or a camper (NO hook ups – be prepared). Friends welcome.
Have I forgotten anything? Contact me ASAP.
Those of you who supported the swim down the Skeena last summer may be interested in seeing the film. It’s on Fri. Ap 30 @ 7:30 at REM Lee. Tickets at Misty River Books.
Last call to check the lost and found – to be honest there's not much left. It’s going to the Sally Ann next week.
And finally, a HUGE thank you to the 15 men, women and hard working children (I mean that seriously!) who showed up on a day’s notice and spent 2 hours emptying the wood shed so we could move it. Now we have to put it all back again! Project for the May Long?!
Cheers everyone!
